Website Update 17, November 2012

Postby Etaew » Sat Nov 17, 2012 2:22 pm

The aim for this update cycle (I'm calling that because 'weekly update' was inaccurate) was to address the site navigation and update some of the pages, so here are the following changes.

FORUM SOFTWARE
- We have upgraded our forum software from phpBB 3.0.8 to 3.0.11
- *REMOVED* We have changed our anti-spam registration settings to reCAPCHA in order to combat a recent spam wave.
- reCAPCHA doesn't work with our sourceforge hosting and people couldn't register, so I have reverted to another question and answer.

NAVIGATION
- Moved the Storm D2 and Storm RvR menu items into a new item called Our Servers.
- Added new menu items for DOL Server, Source Code, Tools, Documentation and Bug Tracker.
- Added a new menu item called Community, in this are community blogs and the forums.
- Added a new menu item called Resources, moved the User Files, Articles, Mob / Item Models into this as well as a link to Uthgard's very useful ID List
- Renamed the Store link under the Project menu to Merchandise.
- Removed Home link.
- Moved the Project menu to the front of the list and added a link to Home.

STORM RvR
- Updated the page design to include a description, news, and how to connect
- Added a top-navigation button to all pages

DOL SERVER
- New page for Source Code, still need to fix up the page display, and the new repository URL
- New page for Tools

Other Notes

The plan for the next update cycle will be on the page contents, I want to focus on high-use pages such as the User Files section and have our own ID List and Documentation page.

Please leave any appropriate feedback in this thread or catch me in IRC #dolserver on irc.quakenet.org.

DAoC also has a subreddit /r/daoc.

I wanted to make it visually clear that you can't click on those links and expect to see a page :(

Ha,

so I wasn't the only one. :) Could you keep it as an arrow instead of the edit line or the hand?

I think instead "Community" it should show "Forum" as this is the heart of every community and deserves a prominent place.

Sourceforge limitation meant that recapcha was producing errors when people tried to register, I've had to revert this and move to a Q&A.
