I hate to be negative Nancy here, but what are they going to offer that's so enticing?

1. Buy our MMO box for $59
2. Log in and create your character in the world of _____
3. Hey you, we need some help, go kill ## _______ and come back to me when done
4. Grind grind grind
5. End Game ... now you get to _____________

I don't see a bright future for any MMO, regardless of who does it. The audience has moved on to games with more immediate gratification that don't require massive time sinks to 'develop' a character. And yea, I'm not so sure Firor, whose last great idea was Trials of Atlantis, has anything to offer me. Someone has to prove to me that a guy who thought ToA was a good idea can change.

And just to rub a little salt into the wounds, I present this:

http://forums.bbbguild.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3162

Matt Firor: Master Levels comprise the new skills and abilities that players learn after completing each Trial. The skills / abilities / spells they learn differ depending on their class and general archetype (i.e. fighter or mage, etc.). In general, we are trying to expand the character's toolbox with these new skills - that is, to make them more well-rounded but not necessarily strictly more powerful. That being said, a player who has completed all nine Trials and has nine Master Levels will be at least a little more powerful than a player who hasn't.

So you'll have to excuse me if I don't believe a word that comes out of this jackasses mouth.

Well i agree with this for the most part 90%. But i suppose its all about how connected you feel to that character. If ESO can capture your imagination and make you feel like your character progression is something that is ultimately leading to never-ending heights then ppl will pay and pay and pay till they are broke. Now true the surge of kids to this game initially is going to be massive simply because its ESO but its the developers job to get them interested in progression, Matt Firor was able to do that at the time with TOA however detrimental to the game and its content later down the road?

While I agree that the future for MMOs are not bright... I will say this; That is what makes an MMO and the future of games at the current state isn't bright, period.
Time sink. Everyone who loves MMOs will continue to play them. What I really want to see, though, is a MMO where you can actually hook up a reality helmet up and control your character in the world of _____. Wii has the right idea with the Zelda game they recently released. Now make MMOs like that for the computer, imo. Think about it. Wouldn't it make the "grind" more interesting if you actually did pull off the combos with a remote? I'd totally kill to be a warrior and feel badass... Even if I looked completely retarded. :P
And while MMOs are getting "boring", so will the current ungrateful audience of CoD/BF/everyotherstupidFPS game get bored of those. Those are just even more boring than MMOs imo. At least VALVe tries to push the bar in the FPS department. *crosses fingers* HL3. Or maybe not. Gabe's scared of the number 3 because he was obviously Tesla in a past life.

"Heh. Heh, heh, heh. Looks like it's corrupting you already. Unfortunate, really. There is no Jupiter on Earth."
"I'm sorry. I underestimated your processing power. Jupiter isn't on Earth. It's in... space.

I just saw TESO today....where the heck have I been? I for one am very excited for this, been playing ES games since Morrowind in 2004, probably a newb compared to some who've been around since the first game. I can't wait! The screenshots look pretty awesome, hopefully they don't mess the lore up and keep it true to the past games. Screenshots from a couple weeks ago:

Oh yeah, I'll be on the fanboy pre-order bandwagon.

I'd gladly play it for many reasons - gfx , mega server etc etc .. - , am already addicted to Skyrim ( even if i've finished the game several times, now my best toon sits on a throne in a torture dungeon surrounded by nikid creatures , tied chained locked etc :-P ) .
@Graveen : aye unlike those mmo you are talking about and that i've only played few hours , nothing more .
@Argo : *nods* this will be one hell of an awesome game. Looks great at even this stage now *nods* .
Looking forward to that mmo ...
