PATCH 1.110 NOT SUPPORTED (read)

Patch 1.110 goes live today and if you update to the new client you will NOT be able to play on STORM and STORM D2. I doubt you will be able to play on any free shard. There are various concerns with this patch including changes to zones and some communication changes.

Make a copy of your entire DAOC installation for playing on free shards. Hard drive space is cheap, make a backup.

Edit: I have already had someone try to log in after applying the new 1.110 patch (without checking this post first) and he was unable. Fortunately he already had an old install from a long time ago backed-up, and all is well again.

I only just a few hours ago learned about these free servers and downloaded the only version I found anywhere (off http://darkageofcamelot.com/download) which is - you know it! - the unsupported version! Any idea what I can do?

I can't get it to load fully. Status bar freezes forever with a small bit to go, I click and the program closes.

I really don't know. If you have a friend that lives close by and has the older version, he or she can just copy the folder and burn it to a DVD (this would also serve as a back-up). I know it's a pain in the butt, but it's better than nothing...
Before, I could copy the daoc folder without installing registry strings and it would play fine, it just wouldn't show it as being installed of course.

For information-sake, my LotM size with the previous patch of 1.109 is 4.39GB
Common DVDs hold 4.7GB, so this would fit okay on one DVD.

Someone may have a better idea, but that's just a quick-fix off the top of my head. If you don't have any friends near you that play DAoC then you need to install the trial from the website (Does the trial auto-update to 1.110?) and find the 1.109 update separately and just patch it to that one. Of course that's easier said than done.

Really an old (1.109) game.dll should be enough to play

Well, there ya go. I didn't know what file was needed.

I understood this update as many things were changing. There is nothing more needed than the game.dll file?

It usually does the trick for me, might have some glitches but didnt notice any so far

Dunnerholl, shouldn't DOL upload the file to download to see if it works for someone? Mine is only like 5.3MB.

you would replace the game.dll in the 1.110 folder with a 1.109 one
