Please do. From time to time I see people swear, use F-words, name-calling, even profanity and derogatory terms toward other players. Something that shouldnt take place in a community with future.

Make a good dictionary file with all bad words and alike, and make a case insensitive monitor of /irc chat.

Charz we all know why you are against this feature to be implemented. This is to enforce /irc rules ingame while GM isnt monitoring.

Problem with that is how to program something to detect swearing without actually getting "false positives".

People will do things like t h i s to get past filters and a scripting tool would run into same issue.

Then there are legitimate words that use a swear word in them or someone might mistype. I ran into a player wondering why part of his name comes out as random characters. I honestly don't think he realized the when he created the name that it contained a word that the game filters.

Finally I don't think the biggest issue is the swearing that will be filtered thus not displayed unless you type a command on the character to disable it. BTW I do not consider that an excuse to swear, because it is same as using another language thus basically rude to do so on a public channel.

The real issue is context in which people use a language and a program is not smart enough to catch that sort of thing. Also an automute feature could actually end up muting a somewhat innocent party because they were flamed bad by someone and reacted yet the flamer can be pretty insulting without ever uttering a swear word.

In what way is it better to use foul language if it is just for the reaction?

Just so you know, if I see you talking crap again ingame you are muted for a while. Yes all your accounts :P

I see more childish "back and forth" more than cursing. I turn off IRC from time to time.

aye, and the back and forth is the hardest to get from an automated system I'm afraid. I'd love to have enough gms to just keep a watch 24:7, but its unrealistic

May be couple mature, english speaking /irc moderators that live in different time zones? Just need to make sure they dont have/show favoritism/association to other players, and stay neutral in judgement.
