Mythic changed the location of the ini files to support Vista but also changed it in xp that the files are stored in profile folder. That folder being documents and settings in XP and Users in Vista and 7.

The exact path after that folder I do believe is same but can't say for sure, only run game on XP myself. I do believe mythic has instructions in the patch where they changed the location for xp and vista, if needed.

Edit: Actually if you have multiple clients you will actually have a directory for each within the folder where lotm is in the path you give. Catacombs folder is Catacombs, Darkness Rising folder is DR , at least that is what it is on mine thus would be if you installed with default settings.

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\<CLIENT>
example:
C:\Documents and Settings\THE_Wolfman\Application Data\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\DR

Windows Vista & Windows 7
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\<CLIENT>
example:
C:\Users\THE_Wolfman\AppData\Roaming\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\LotM

Process:
1. Create a new character (do not make any changes) and exit the game.
2. Navigate to directory noted above as applicable.
3. Locate ini file for the newly created character (eg: Newtoon-12.ini).
4. Open the file in a text editor (eg: notepad).
5. Navigate to DAoC installation and locate your default ini file by closest horizontal resolution (eg: default1600.ini for a 1680x1050 display).
6. Open the file in a text editor (eg: notepad).
7. Compare values to verify you are working with the default ini file that was used as a template for your new character (eg: Compass=x,x,x,x,x is one good indicator, as it is resolution specific).
8. When you have verified the correct default ini file, close the ini file for the new character and start the game.
9. Modify the screen layout, camera settings, etc. to suit your taste and exit the game again.
10. Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4.
11. Copy any desired values from your newly modified character ini file to the default ini for your resolution.
12. Close all files, start the game and create a new character to test your work.
13. There is no 13... skip it.
14. When satisfied with your work, back it up (in a zip file for example) in case it gets overwritten by a future update.
15. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.

It is now always in %APPDATA%\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\.

Just type %APPDATA%\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\ into Explorer's location bar, the environment variable will automatically expand to your proper application data folder.

(I expect this is not thread necromancy since it's sticky and all.)

No, good bump. I am unable to get this to work with my widescreen monitor at the resolution I need. Bugs the heck out of me.

What resolution are you using Tola?

1680x1050 is a widescreen resolution, and it works fine.

That's what I use and I've placed the files in just about every directory and still no good. Vista Ultimate (crap) 32bit.

Very odd! :?

I'm running Vista 64bit at 1680x1050 resolution, and my directions have worked with all DR and LotM clients since 1.92 at the very least. 8)

Default1600.ini should be the file you edit and it stays in your DAoC client folder.
The .ini files for each character should be in:
%APPDATA%\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\LotM
which is the same as:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\LotM

Note: If you delete a character the ini file for it can be left behind, so a new character with the same name would simply use the existing ini file with that character name.

Default1600.ini
DOH! Really. I must have conveniently skipped that step, I was editing or had created a file called Default1680.ini

Hehe!

Sorry, but the client will only check for the default horizontal resolution ini files that came with it. Default1680.ini isn't one of them so the client has been ignoring it.

Keep me posted.
