Want to make custom server

I would like to make a Custom server, but my problem is I look around all a few guides and such. I get completely lost and just want to give up, as I don't understand half of what's is being said. Such as having me download 3-4 programs and not even giving a brief description on what that program does or anything.

So could someone help me out, with a walk-through that anyone can understand.
