Hiya folks, quick question

Postby DigitalHytop » Fri May 01, 2015 4:25 pm

I was wondering if anyone else running a server that has worked with housing has had this issue, and found a fix for it. I'm hoping there is just a setting I've overlooked.

The housing areas on my server do what seems to be a refresh about every 2 minutes. This causes all the houses in the area to appear to phase out for a split second, and back again. This is annoying enough, but to make it worse, when you are attempting to decorate the outside of the house, it resets the garden window where you have to hit the button to get the mini map back up again in order to place an item.

Is anyone else having this problem and is there a fix for it? I've tried adjusting the time settings for checking rent etc, but no luck.

So, all the views and folks posting in other forms and no response to this one? Does nobody else have this problem or care to suggest a fix for it?

I loaded the latest Whria build and it was even worse. Not only does it do the house refresh every minute, but with that one it even rudely closes out ALL the windows, not just cause the garden window to need a reset.

Not replying is different than not caring ;)

There is some known bugs around housing refresh, but right now I don't understand what happens and I lack time to investigate...

It's easier to reply to some support requests than this one, but if you can gather more data about this bug I'd be glad to read them and try to come out with an update !

What client version. I suspect this is one of the 1.110 issues that just hasn't been addressed yet? I don't have this problem using older clients.

I'd be happy to help with anything I can Leodagan. Just let me know what you need and I'll try to provide it.

Tolakram, I'm running the 1.109 DLL. I also have the older frontiers folder installed too, but I don't think that affects housing. I was having this issue before I placed the folder within my client. Easy enough to take out if you need me to test it, since I just renamed my old frontiers folder, rather than overwrite it.

Are you using latest SVN for checking housing ?

Do you have any error/warning/info logs in your Server Console when you're in housing zone ?

Could you try dual-boxing on the same housing zone to compare "refreshing" behavior between clients ?

Could you write a simple Step-by-Step telling how to reproduce the bugs you're experiencing ?

I have some clue about this trouble ;)

After checking on live it looks like the "House Create" Packet is not used for refreshing House Status...

I have to change the Update Thread to only send "House Garden" Packet which is indeed a real "House Update" Packet according to the Packet Log Converter...

Commit Revision : 3465

Housing Update don't use "SendHouse" anymore, only relying on Garden Update and "House Occupied" Update, SendHouse is only used when house enter Housing View Range (about 10 000 units)

It's not heavily tested, the worst case would be a house that is not "Created" Client side but server keep thinking it's there and only send "Update" Packet, getting out of range and back in range would fix this...

This is a simple workaround, according to Live Server tests the Housing is not working like World Item or NPC needing periodic Update but are more "Static", Houses are created once and for all when player enter range, then they are updated if anything change to the house structure or maybe when some "state flags" change (house due scheduled time ?)

I don't trust enough the House Manager to keep track of all house creation/update to remove entirely the code from World Update Thread, but they should mostly be handled like Keeps which handle their own state change when they get hit or status change (but Keep Creation is Region-Wide which is easier to handle...)

Thanks Leodagan for looking further into this. I wasn't sure what to give you with your request for more info since I wasn't getting any errors on the console or in my logs with this issue. Just the annoying refresh every minute or so.

I am doing some further testing though. I downloaded the latest DoL nightly and have installed it on my test server. I take it your "Commit" means that what you did is included with this build since after loading it, I see that the problem with the Garden window is gone. The garden items however, still do this refresh without affecting the Garden window. This is much more acceptable and less annoying than watching the houses refresh every minute. But, I have found another issue.

I have a section of housing set up for the two main guilds on the server. For their convenience, I also have a teleporter that takes them back to this location. If I used the teleporter to get back to this location, all the houses within my clip pane range are gone. All NPCs are there (consignment merchants, NPCs I've placed, etc.) but houses are not. I can however walk far enough where the houses are out of my clip range and walk back and they will mysteriously reappear.

If I log out near the houses and log back in, or if I use "/jump to x y z" I get the same results. All houses within clip range are gone. I'm figuring the same would happen if I "/release house".

So House Garden Items being refreshed is still annoying ?

And House "Create" Packet is not sent when you just teleport / log in near houses ?

I think I have to rely even more on House Manager for all Update Packet, but I have to double check the Creation Methods ;)

No, not at all on the garden refresh. I can totally live with that. We can now decorate the outside without the garden window glitching out. That is a huge improvement. Is a matter of fact, everything as is, is great. If we can just figure how to cause a load up of the houses within clip range upon zone in/log in, I think we'd be great to go.

Further improvements in Revision 3469

Now Houses are correctly created when jumping or login in, Update only send the small "house occupied" update packet regularly, House Manager keep track of other changes.

Most update packets have been changed to correctly use house viewing distance instead of visibility distance, this way we make sure client keep updated house when in "create" range.

This is great news. I'm anxious to give it a spin. I've been watching the autobuild SVN update since I read this though early this morning and it's still showing 3465 for the download. What time does the nightly do an update? Or is there an alternate place to download in the mean time?

I have no idea when the nightly build get updated ;)

You can grab a SVN snapshot of the Project with TortoiseSVN ( http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads.html ) : https://svn.code.sf.net/p/dolserver/cod ... arp/trunk/

Then compile from source using SharpDevelop (Opening Dawn of Light.sln then hitting Alt+F8) : http://www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/Download/

Ok. You've got me lost now. Downloaded all, ran as instructed. After my alt F8, I got this.
3469CompileWarnings.PNG
3469CompileWarnings.PNG (12.71 KiB) Viewed 2367 times
Not sure if the warnings were normal. Now I'm not sure what else I'm to do. I went to the folder all of this resides in and I'm clueless on where the compiled version is. It never asked to save anything/export anything and the trunk folder looks pretty much the same before I started the compile. Can you tell I've never done this before? lol Now you know why I was waiting on the Autobuild.
