D2 Beginner Class Change

I am curious. If one changes their class at the beginning to that of another realm, whose attributes become important? It's tough to word this question in order to make sense, so here's an example. Say I started with an avalonian character having high intelligence, and changed my class to runemaster. Runie's magic stat is piety, so am I correct in assuming that intelligence is useless? Does the initial racial attribute still affect the magic skill, or is it the realm attribute we use? I would assume that in such a case, I should be trying for +piety gear, but am not too sure.

Unfortunately yes, your initial int stat is useless, but as a runemaster your piety will increase as you level. A few stat points at high levels in D2 is not going to matter that much.

That is what I thought. The main reason I was asking is because of gear as I progress. I have been trying to get +piety gear, just didn't want to find out later that I should have been equipping for Int. Thanks for the quick response...and the great server!
